Valentine Luncheon

Enjoyed by All!

Cross of Christ's Fellowship Hall was glowing with red as ladies were treated to a delicious brunch prepared and served by men of Cross of Christ. After eating, the guests were entertained with a music program by Rachel Storlie and Anita Wilson which was totally enjoyed.

Cross of Christ W/ELCA

Mission Statement:

“As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.”

Who Are the Women of the ELCA?

All confirmed women of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church are participants of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Women of Cross of Christ ELCA are a part of the Southeastern Minnesota Synod and a part of the Root rive Conference. Each individual voluntarily becomes involved in the program of activities offered by our local W/ELCA.

We have 3 circles, which hold monthly meetings at a time and place decided on by each individual circle. The circles meet for Bible Study and Christian fellowship. We also have nine serving groups. The serving groups are called on a rotating basis to serve at various church functions such as funerals, weddings, anniversaries and the like.

If we want to serve squash at our fall supper this October, we need to think about growing it now.  Please plant a Butternut Squash hill if you have any extra space in your garden, and donate the squash to the fall supper. Thanks for your help.

2015 Schedule of Events, Circle Project Responsibilites, Mission Action Projects

Do you ever wonder what happens to the quilts, school kits, and personal health kits assembled here at Cross of Christ by the women of WELCA?  I did a little research and discovered that the mission work of sharing these items is far-reaching.

In the year ending in May of 2014, women of WELCA throughout the United States shipped nearly 500,000 quilts around the world!  The quilts, including those assembled right here on the tables of the fellowship hall of Cross of Christ, are used, according to Lutheran World Relief, as bed covers, baby carriers, market displays for fresh fruits and vegetables, sacks for transporting these goods to market, sunshades, shawls, and “as a constant reminder that someone far away cares a lot.”  Quilts, school kits, and personal health kits from Minnesota travel the globe to places like Jordan, Syria, Angola, India, Nicaragua, Palestine, Peru, Tanzania, Myanmar, Thailand, Burkina Faso, Cambodia . . . and the list goes on.  What a blessing to us, the women of WELCA here at Cross of Christ, to know that our humble contributions can touch so many lives, so far away, carrying our love and the love of Christ to those who need it most.

Please come join us in this mission as we meet on Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4, for our next “Do-Days,” a time of work, laughter, fellowship, and FOOD!  Rookies are welcome—there will always be a place for anyone, regardless of your quilting experience!  We will begin at 9:00 am each day, with a potluck lunch at noon.  We will hold our business meeting Monday following lunch.  Come for both days, come for one day, or come for a few hours.  There is much joy in knowing that our work during those two days can reach around the world!

In Christ,

Denise Rostad, WELCA President

Women of Cross of Christ

Every woman who is a member of Cross of Christ is encouraged to be an active member of the W:ELCA and is requested to share in the work of a serving group.

We have 9 serving groups which are involved in about four or five activities each year. Serving groups serve in rotation as determined by the Hospitality Committee. When you are called to serve, you will be asked for food or a donation of $5.00 and to work if needed. For the Fall Supper you will be asked to bring food or a donation of $10.00. Please turn all money into your chairman or the church office as soon as possible. Please have it labeled with your group's number.

Kitchen Cleaning: General cleaning of the kitchen including ovens, stove-tops, cupboards, and shelves will be done by serving groups.
