Cross of Christ W/ELCA

Mission Statement:

“As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.”

Who Are the Women of the ELCA?

All confirmed women of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church are participants of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Women of Cross of Christ ELCA are a part of the Southeastern Minnesota Synod and a part of the Root rive Conference. Each individual voluntarily becomes involved in the program of activities offered by our local W/ELCA.

We have 3 circles, which hold monthly meetings at a time and place decided on by each individual circle. The circles meet for Bible Study and Christian fellowship. We also have nine serving groups. The serving groups are called on a rotating basis to serve at various church functions such as funerals, weddings, anniversaries and the like.

WELCA NEWS

As we embark on a new year for WELCA, I wish you a very wonderful new year. I speak on behalf of a very wonderful organization with a long history in the Lutheran Church. Throughout history, the women have served the church faithfully. While attending a service at my home church in northern Minnesota, I picked up a history of Bethel Lutheran Church. Reading the minutes of the “Women’s Ladies Aid”, I became aware of the importance of this group even in the 1800’s. The women were asked to help pay for windows for the church and another entry read, “As usual, the aid helped pay the pastor’s salary and gave enough money to pay up the budget.” That legacy shows itself in the ministries of the women at Cross of Christ as we prepare for programs and events in the next year.

The WELCA booklet with lists of serving groups will be available for pick-up soon.  Activities coming within the next month include Do Days, during which we gather to make quilts to send overseas and also to give to graduating seniors. It is a wonderful day of fellowship shared by these willing workers. The 32nd annual Valentine’s Luncheon will be held Saturday, February 13, at 10:00, and tickets will be available after church on January 31 and February 7.  Looking ahead to March, Cross of Christ is hosting the World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 4.

Mark your calendars and join us for service and fun.

Susan Ferries, WELCA president
